저자소개: 애덤 고프닉 (Adam Gopnik)
<뉴요커> 전속작가로 <내셔널 매거진 어워드> 에세이와 비평 부문에서 각각 세 번씩 수상을 했으며, <조지 포크 어워드> 매거진 리포팅 부분에서, <캐나다 내셔널 매거진 어워드> 예술작가상을 수상했다. 2013년에는 프랑스로부터 문화예술에 대한 공로를 인정받아 슈발리에 메달을 받았고, 맥길 대학교에서 명예 학위를 받았다.
애덤 고프닉은 ‘미국 최고의 에세이’, ‘미국 최고의 여행저술’, ‘미국 최고의 스포츠저술’, ‘미국 최고의 음식저술’, ‘미국 최고의 영성저술’ 등에 다수 선정될 만큼 다양한 분야에서 깊이 있는 글을 쓰는 작가로 그가 파리에서 쓴 에세이들의 모음집인《 파리에서 달까지》는 <뉴요커>로부터 ‘프랑스에 대해 쓴 가장 훌륭한 책’이라는 평가를 받았다. 파리에 있는 동안 그는 2005년에 <판타지와 공상과학 저널>로부터 ‘매우 고상한 아동 문학’이라는 평가를 받은 모험소설 《창 속의 왕》을 발표했다.
